I also dislike being locked in to a phone provider so I prefer not to get the discount on the expensive since it usually means a two year contract. I keep my phones until they die. Unfortunately water has brought an untimely end to two of them... Now that I carry a phone for work I cancelled my personal cell phone. It saves me money and the phone will last a lot longer.
